The PPAA training programmes in psychoanalytic psychotherapy are at postgraduate level and managed by the member organisations according to PPAA guidelines. They are modelled on, and have links with, established and highly regarded training programmes in other countries.

These programmes provide a systematic and intensive training in psychotherapy. They include extensive theoretical input from major psychoanalytical theorists, supervised casework, and the trainee's own personal psychotherapy or psychoanalysis. The training components are usually undertaken concurrently and extend over several years.

Upon successful completion of the training programme, the graduates are eligible to apply for membership of their respective organization.
